Transportation Community Input Meetings

We Need Your Input!

  • Would you be open to your student’s school having a different start time?
  • Does your child participate in extracurricular activities and use after-school transportation?
  • Does your student use other means of transportation to get to and from school (IndyGo, Uber, Lyft or personal vehicle)?

In December 2017, the IPS Board of School Commissioners asked the District to explore a later start time for high school students. Research from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), American Academy of Pediatrics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), among others, all recommend that middle school and high school start times should be no earlier than 8:30 a.m. to guarantee that all students arrive at school healthy, awake and ready to learn. Additionally, medical researchers found that sleep patterns of younger children enabled them to rise early and be ready for learning much earlier than teens.

As we prepare to begin the new All-Choice high school model we are asking our students, families and community to engage in discussion around a potential new district-wide transportation model. Join us February 26-March 1 at one of the following locations.

Spanish translation and child care will be provided each night.
